Will my phone work with a travel eSIM?

Run the device checker before you buy. It gives one of three answers for your exact model: supported, not supported, or “no data” — which means the manufacturer has published nothing about that model, and we will not guess on your behalf.

Three verdicts, not two

The checker answers one of three ways for the model you pick, and the third is the one most comparison pages do not have. Where the manufacturer has published nothing about a model, it says exactly this:

We do not have compatibility data for that phone.

A model missing from the list is never treated as a no. Absence from a manufacturer’s documentation is absence of evidence, and it is rendered as its own answer rather than rounded to whichever of the other two reads better.

Check it on the phone itself

A “no data” verdict is not a dead end, and you do not have to take anybody’s word for it. The phone will tell you itself:

iOS: Settings → General → About. If you see "Available SIM" or "Digital SIM" with an EID number, your iPhone can take an eSIM.
Android: Settings → Connections → SIM manager (Samsung) or Settings → Network & internet → SIMs (Pixel). An "Add eSIM" or "Download a SIM instead?" option means your phone can take one.
On most Android phones, dialling *#06# shows an EID alongside the IMEI. An EID means eSIM hardware is present.

Carrier lock is a separate question

A phone locked to a network will refuse a third-party eSIM even when the hardware supports it. We cannot see this from here, and we do not claim to — here is how to check it yourself.

iOS: Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock. "No SIM restrictions" means you are free to use our eSIM.
Android: Settings → About phone → SIM status, or contact the operator you bought the phone from. Android does not report this consistently across manufacturers, which is itself worth saying out loud.
